2. Instruction for the clinical use of the urine Marker solution

Below you will find advice regarding the Marker project. The advantage of marking urine is that a swapping of samples can be analytically proven even without supervision of the patient during urination.

Currently there are 6 different Markers which are shipped in closable tubes. Unrefrigerated the Marker solutions will keep for several years. Upon refrigeration the Markers will solidify but can easily be returned to their liquid state by warming.

An overview of the usage.
How to use the ruma-marker system.

1.) Firstly, please fill out the head section of the laboratory card, e. g. with name, date of birth and gender.

2.) On the laboratory requisition slip you tick the drugs that are supposed to be determined.

3.) On the Marker bottles there are stickers with a 10 digit numerical code. Please peel this sticker off and stick it to the laboratory card or the letter of referral. Then put the contents of the Marker tube into a cup of approx. 100 – 200 ml Coca Cola, sweetened coffee or tea (3-4 teaspoon sugar per cup), stir and administer to the patient. If methadone has to be administered as well it can be mixed with the Marker solution.

4.) After 30 minutes at the earliest the urine can be collected without supervision. During the waiting period the patient does not have to be monitored. A longer waiting period, even several hours, is possible. It should be the first urine after intake of the Marker.
Give the patient a new cup for urinating. Never use the cup the Marker has been given in.

5.) Then please use one of the stickers on the laboratory card and stick it to the urine monovette. The urine is then inserted into the included urine monovettes.

6.) We will send you the results by fax, regular mail or by e-mail including the results of the Marker analysis.
