1. The forgery-proof doping test

Frontpage of the Ruma sports broschure Fraud is as old as competitive sport
The need to set up a strict set of rules at a sports event to guarantee a fair competition dates back to the time of the ancient Greeks. These rules were indeed necessary as in the year 388 BC, the boxer Eupolos from Thessaly bribed three of his competitors at the Pancratium (boxing match) to secure the olive branch for himself in an illegal way. He was probably influenced to do this by the fact that even in ancient Greek times an Olympia winner was set up for life.

The race for clean sport
Is clean sport even possible? One will struggle to find an area in professional sports where athletes could not be tempted to increase their performance with illegal methods.

In doing so they accept the risk of doing serious, long-term damage to their health as the substances used for doping heavily affect the body’s metabolism and are usually not sufficiently tested for their long-term effects. Even in amateur sport doping is no longer an unusual occurrence – our achievement-oriented society is starting to kill the fairness in sport. Drug users and inspectors are in a constant race of new ways of abuse and new scientific discoveries. Deception is normally practised at a high scientific expenditure, or simply – and very successfully – by swapping samples.

2006 – doping testers take a huge step forwards
After ten years of scientific research the firm RUMA has developed markers, which make it possible to assign a urine sample to a test person with 100% certainty. This is verified by over 40,000 pieces of analysis. The samples can no longer be manipulated, even thinning out of samples can be noted instantly. The process is protected by patent.
